I think most of us by now have either seen or at least heard of the video of the poor turtle having a plastic straw removed from his/her nose. A video that will stay with me forever. Plastic straws are a danger to marine life and the environment, and take up to 500 years to decompose! Yet 8.5 billion of the things are estimated to be used in the UK alone every year! They are typically only used for less than 20 minutes, and are often not recycled.

Bamboo Straws:

Our reusable bamboo straws are 100% natural and made by a family run business in Bali. They source their bamboo from their own forest plot, cut the bamboo into pieces using cutting machines, then wash them inside and out using only water, leaving them to dry naturally in the sun. No chemicals are used in this process.

We are proud to work with a supplier that shares our values, and that were used by Greenpeace Indonesia to supply eco-friendly products for their environmental events.

Our bamboo straws are made to last a long time, but if for any reason you wish to dispose of your straws you will be happy to know they are 100% compostable and biodegradable, returning back to raw natural materials very quickly.

Taking Care of Your Straws:

After each use it is important to clean and dry your straws, to make sure they last. If you are drinking water or a soft drink, they can be simply rinsed with luk warm water and a small drop of washing up liquid. If using your straws for a thicker drink such as a smoothie, use a drop of washing up liquid on a cleaning brush, which can also be purchased on this site, to make sure no bits get left inside of your straw.

Always let your bamboo straws dry fully. I place mine in a clean and dry glass jar without the lid on (see picture) and not overcrowded with other straws.

Store your straws in a well-ventilated place, and never in air-tight sealed containers.

Important Information:

As these straws are natural, each one is unique, just like you, varying slightly in colour and width. If you order more than one straw, they will vary in shade and width. See picture three for an example of how varied the straw widths can be.
