Organic Day Pad
Ditch Disposables
Women on average will use well over 10,000 disposable sanitary products in their lifetime. All of which end up in landfill or wreaking havoc in the sea, taking several hundreds of years to decompose. They are therefore not quite as ‘disposable’ as we may initially think.
Disposable sanitary items are also usually full of nasty chemicals, including bleach (to whiten them) and even plastic, so they aren’t even great for our lady bits either.
Enter Reusable Cloth Pads
This Eco Femme Day Pad is a reusable cloth pad made from 100% organic unbleached India Cotton. They are used very similarly to a disposable sanitary towel, but instead of sticking to your pants, they close with a metal push button.
With good care the Eco Femme pad will last 5-years or more, which will dramatically cut down on your waste, but also save you lots of money.
Features
The Eco Femme Day Pad is designed for daytime using throughout your period, and would suit light to moderate flow. It features a comfortable soft organic cotton flannel top side, with 5 layers of absorbency, plus a hidden PUL (polyurethane laminate) layer for leakproofing. The pad is backed with a colourful print fabric (as pictured). Use the pads plain side towards your skin.
The Day pad measures approximately 21.5cm long x 6cm. In testing there slight pad shrinkage after pre-washing them was noticed. The sizes quoted are after washing, so your new pads may appear slightly bigger.
Each Day Pad comes packaged with full instructions, and all packaging is recycled and recyclable.
Eco Femme
Eco Femme is a women-led social enterprise founded in 2010, promoting menstrual practices that are healthy, dignified, affordable and eco-positive. Rural Indian womens collectives stitch these pads, which are then ethically traded - available to Indian women at cost price to be affordable, and sold internationally to help sustain and fund the project.
By choosing Eco Femme products, you are supporting this valuable and worthwhile project. In addition, for every pad sold, a pad is donated via the Eco Femme Pad for Pad program to a needy Indian girl who otherwise would be going without.
